María Antonia Hidalgo
International PhD in Social Sciences from UPO, Master’s Degree in Visual Arts and Education from the University of Granada and Postgraduate Degree in Human Rights from UPO. Hidalgo highlights the value of art and creative processes for personal and social strengthening by establishing a referential and methodological framework from the social and human sciences perspective, particularly philosophical aesthetics, anthropology and social psychology. Since 2010, she has been the promoter and executive director of the Master’s Degree in Art Therapy and the Application of Art for Dialogue and Social Integration at Pablo de Olavide University with a psychosocial and community focus (six editions). She is also coordinator of the Art Therapy and Education summer courses at Pablo de Olavide University in Carmona (ten editions). Between 2008 and 2022 she was an undergraduate lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Malaga and in the Department of Social Psychology at UPO.
She is the member of several academic research groups: the LISIS Group focusing on School Coexistence-UV-UPO; the PAIDI (SEJ-468) “Values, family, Equality and Intergenerational Relations” research group at UPO; OUISO (International University Observatory on Western Sahara); CINEF (Interdisciplinary Center for Feminist, Women and Gender Studies-Pablo de Olavide University). She is also a lecturer for the International Group VIW (Voices Of Immigrant Women) and HUM 192 (Studies in Philosophy, Rhetoric and Aesthetics) at the University of Granada.
She collaborates in several Art and Human Rights programmes with research placements in Mexico and in Sahrawi refugee camps (COLEF, Colegio de la Frontera Norte; IMUMI, the Institute of Women in Migration; APOFAM, the Popular Assembly of Migrant Families; AACID, the Andalusian Agency for International Development Cooperation; ARTifariti, Art and Human Rights Meetings of Western Sahara; GENDERCIT, “Gender and Citizenship” (PF7-PEOPLE-2012) within the Marie Curie Action programme).
As a cultural manager for UGR, she has held several positions in the Administration; she was director of the Department of Culture of Granada Provincial Government, head of the Federico García Lorca Board of Trustees in Fuente Vaqueros and director of the Cultural Routes of the El Legado Andalusí Foundation.
Through the La Razón Creativa programme, she works as an artistic mediator and art therapist in different territories, in both Spain and abroad, focusing on women as caregivers, returned migrants, refugee children and adolescents. In the field of education, she has collaborated in programmes on non-violent communication, the stimulation of critical thinking and raising awareness of a Culture of Peace in more than 20 secondary education establishment and some Andalusian organizations such as the Provincial Government of Seville, the Regional Ministry of Employment and the Andalusian Youth Institute.
